Climbing is like dancing, except the performances take place in the vertical world. And like dancing, strength can pay off, but correct technique, body positioning and movement initiation ultimately bring greater rewards. In Mastering 5.10, our instructors will offer critical movement skills with a sprinkle of training activities in order to make you a more efficient climber.
Breaking into lead climbing is one of the biggest milestones for every climber. Being able to lead opens up an entire new world of opportunities and can be a mega confidence booster. But, lead climbing comes with its own risks and learning curves. Learning to Lead will take your climbing to the next level by teaching you the fundamentals of technical lead skills and gear inspection and by getting you on the gym’s most exciting walls.
Looking to build confidence while clipping bolts? In Lead Climbing With Confidence, our instructors will provide methods for dialing in your focus, improving your mental game, objectively assessing risk, and using body-based processes to overcome anxiety and commit to tricky moves. Plus, you’ll get ample opportunities to take and catch falls to boost your comfort level and self-assurance. To get in the right mindset, consider picking up The Rock Warrior’s Way, or Espresso Lessons, written by Arno Illgner.
You’ve taken Learn to Lead, and you can crush a 5.10 without breaking a sweat, but maybe you need just a little more time on the sharp end before taking that Lead Test. We’ve got you! This class gives you more instructor time to practice your new skills and build your confidence before earning your tags.
Registration for all Practice Sessions and Skills Reviews is available either through a link sent by your Learn to Lead instructor or by signing up in person at the Front Desk. There is no cost to attend! Takes place every other Wednesday from 7:15p – 8:45p and every Sunday from 1:00p – 2:30p at SLC.
Develop your climbing prowess one skill at a time! Each Skill Station Session teaches you a fundamental climbing skill and offers you an exercise you can do on your own to refine the skill at your own pace. Each class is taught on a specific boulder problem that our setting team has created just for the purpose of learning each week’s specific skill more easily.
Skills include hold types & volumes, hold orientation, footwork fundamentals, static vs. dynamic movement, advanced footwork, flagging, and steep climbing.
A skill is taught every Saturday, and restarts after all topics have been covered. Attend all classes or just one! No obligation is required. Class is free for members; guests are welcome with day pass.
Privately coached sessions are a great way to go deeper into the specifics of your climbing with a customized time-slot and curriculum. Our coaches can provide great insights into the critical aspects of your climbing.
Do you need to work on movement, fear of falling, goal setting or fitness? Preparing for a competition? Our coaches can be your personal guide, for one or many sessions. Each lesson includes a written summary of the session and coach’s commentary videos when applicable.
